Dear students,
the Studierendenwerk Bremen is once again offering grants for students in need from developing countries. You have to fill out the application forms and hand them in in person on Thursday, January 22, 2026 or Tuesday, January 27, 2026 between 9am-1pm at the “Service-Büro” of the “Amt für Ausbildungsförderung” in the Glashalle. You can find the application forms on the AStA-Website at: https://www.asta.uni-bremen.de/antrag-auf-gewaehrung-eines-stipendiums-fuer-notleidende-studierende-aus-entwicklungslaendern-application-for-a-grant-for-students-in-need-from-developing-countries/. Alternatively, you can pick up the forms at the Service-Büro of the Amt für Ausbildungsförderung, the office is however closed from December 19, 2025, to January 5, 2026. Grants for students in need from developing countries
For the allocation period 1 Mar 2026 to 31 Aug 2026funds are available for awarding grants to students from developing countries.
A grant can be awarded if the conditions below are met:
- The student originates from a developing country which is registered on the DAC list published by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. (https://www.bmz.de/de/ministerium/zahlen-fakten/oda-zahlen/hintergrund/dac-laenderliste-35294)
- The student must be in the final phase of their first degree course, and they must expect to have completed the course at the end of the semester immediately following the semester for which the grant is awarded at the latest, and this must be confirmed by the particular university in Section II of the application form. If an application is made for the grant to be extended, it must be proved that the degree will have been completed by the end of the semester for which the grant is awarded.
- You must provide supporting documentation t a legally valid residence title for study purposes for the university locations Bremen or Bremerhaven.
- You must prove that your main residence has been in the Federal State of Bremen for at least one year before the application is submitted.
- You must provide supporting documentation that you initially funded the course of study yourself and a statement as to why you are no longer able to fund your studies yourself.
- The course of study undertaken is not an additional, postgraduate, complementary graduate or doctoral degree course and the student has not completed a degree course in their home country or any other foreign country.
- The student has not received a grant in accordance with the Federal Education and Training Funding Act (BAföG), any payments in acc. with Book Twelve of the German Social Security Code (SGB XII) or has not already been funded for two semesters in accordance with the stipulations of the Senator of Education, Science and Art and the Senator of Health, Youth and Welfare on the awarding of grants in accordance with the guidelines of 9 Nov 1993 / 28 Dec 1994.
The application forms can be obtained in the “Service-Büro” of the “Amt für Ausbildungsförderung” (Studierendenwerk, Floor 0).
The application together with the relevant supporting documentation must be returned in person to the “Service-Büro” of the “Amt für Ausbildungsförderung” (Studierendenwerk, Floor 0, Room A0120). The copies of the documents have to be prepared by yourself.

Please note that the official language is German and the application must be submitted in German. Applications may only be submitted at the following days: Thursday, January 22, 2026 and Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
